Welcome to DermPerspectives. In each quarterly edition, we strive to provide Dermatology Physician Assistants with practical information to help you manage your patients more effectively while also developing professionally.
This edition focuses on the role of skincare for all dermatology patients. Data show that in the five years from 1995 to 2000, there were an estimated 36 million physician recommendations for OTC topical skin products (Cutis. 2004 Jul;74(1):55-67). But were all those recommendations worthwhile? The skin care market has grown tremendously and will continue to expand. Clinicians must be prepared to offer patients meaningful—and memorable—skin care advice.
